Girvan Cycle Race Anti Doping Policy
The organisers of the Girvan Cycle Race are opposed to any form of cheating in sport. We are particularly opposed to doping in sport and take the view that a performance achieved by a competitor using a banned substance or method has no validity.

We are therefore unequivocally opposed, on ethical and medical grounds, to the practice of doping in sport and fully support the commitment of UK Sport to the World Anti-Doping Code.

We firmly believe that cycling is not a sport in crisis due to doping. Cycling is simply a sport which has had enough of seeing its reputation dragged through the mud and has resolved to hunt down those who seek to defraud their fellow competitors by doping. The sport is making publicly visible progress in 'weeding out' the doping cheats in its ranks. We look forward to a time when 'dopers' finally get the message that, in the end, there is no hiding place.

Our own Anti Doping Policy is quite simple:-

  • The Girvan Cycle Race is promoted as an event in which competitors compete in a spirit of fair play and sportmanship and in which good performances are the result of hard work, natural athletic ability and effective tactics. We believe that our sponsors, supporters, helpers and the spectating public deserve nothing less.
  • Competitors who use prohibited substances or methods are not welcome at the Girvan Cycle Race.
  • Individuals involved in the supply or administration of prohibited substances or methods to competitors are not
welcome at the Girvan Cycle Race.
  • Where we find evidence, or are presented with evidence, that any competitor participating in the Girvan Cycle Race has used prohibited substances or methods we will pass such evidence to the relevant authorities.
  • Where we find evidence, or are presented with evidence, that any individual has supplied or administered prohibited substances or methods to a competitor participating in the Girvan Cycle Race we will pass such evidence to the relevant authorities.

Anti Doping Controls

From its inception the Girvan Cycle Race has been subject to frequent anti doping controls with the majority of editions of the event having been subject to controls. The organisers of the race welcome these controls and have always co-operated fully with the organisations whose responsibility it has been to carry them out.

To date, the results of all anti doping controls carried out at the Girvan Cycle Race have been negative. We are proud of this record which, by and large, reflects the position of cycle sport in the UK. However, we can never be complacent and will therefore continue to give our full co-operation and support to those who are charged with fighting doping in our sport.

Ride 'Clean'
Before training for, or competing at, Girvan - or any other race - consult the Drug Information Database to check that you are not inadvertently using any medecines or methods that are prohibited. The database is an online service that provides athletes and their support personnel with fast and accurate information about which drugs and other substances are prohibited under the rules of sport. The DiD website also contains advice about dietary supplements that may contain prohibited substances.
