Cycling in Ayrshire:
CTC Ayrshire  Local group of the Cyclists' Touring Club. The site includes details of their extensive programme of rides to suit all ages and abilities.

Ayrshire Paths - Cycling "The Ayrshire Paths initiative provides sensitively managed, well sign-posted routes for all capabilities of walker and cyclist." Their site provides a useful 'path selector' facility providing maps and information for each trail.

Walkers Cycling Based in Kilmaurs, Walkers do cycles, parts and accessories sales; bike hire, servicing and repairs, tuition, event services and more.

Fullarton Wheelers One of Ayrshire's biggest and most active clubs with a long and illustrious history. The Irvine based club is mainly road orientated with time trials featuring heavily in its crowded programme of club and open events. You'll usually find several Fullarton members amongst the valued team of race officials at Girvan.

Ayr Roads Cycling Club Founded in 1930, Ayr Roads CC has remained faithful to its name with members organising and participating in road races, time trials and cycle touring. Other types of cycling are catered for however and the club boasts a World Championship track medallist in its ranks.

Cycling in Dumfries & Galloway:  
CTC Dumfries & Galloway "Dedicated to the simple pursuit of cycle-touring and sociable cycling activities, on and off-road, in the pleasant countryside of Dumfries and Galloway."

7stanes Project Managed by Forestry Commission Scotland, the 7stanes are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland, 5 of them being in Dumfries and Galloway. Stage 3 of the 2007 Girvan Cycle Race will pass the 7stanes centre at Kirroughtree.

Stewartry Wheelers Stewartry Wheelers is a club for cyclists in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright that aims to cater for cyclists of all ages and interests. The club organises social rides, time trials and races both on road and off, including the Kirkcudbright Criterium.

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Park Something of a focus for cycling in Dumfries & Galloway, Drumlanrig has close associations with Kirkpatrick Macmillan, inventor of the first pedal driven bicycle in 1840. The estate is now home to a bike repair and hire shop, Scottish Cycling Museum and some of the finest mountain bike trails in Scotland.

Dumfries & Galloway Cycling Hosted on the Dumfries & Galloway Tourist Board site, these pages offer information on local cycle routes, short breaks in cycling-friendly accommodation and guided rides.

Visit Scotland - Cycling A good cycling resource from the people at Visit Scotland. More useful information than you can shake a bicycle pump at.

Braveheart Cycling Fund The Braveheart Cycling Fund is run by a small group of volunteers committed to providing the best opportunities for Scottish racing cyclists to compete at the highest level in Europe.

The governing body for all aspects of cycle sport in Scotland. Online forum, race results and photos, downloads and much more.

British Cycling Internationally recognised governing body for cycle sport in the UK. Check on the latest Premier Calendar Series results and standings.

Cyclists' Touring Club The CTC is a national club looking after the interests of all cyclists.

Audax UK Audax is hard to define concisely but it's a type of semi-competitive cycling. Follow the link for a much better explanation!

Scottish Cross Country MTB Association The Association runs the national 'SXC Series' of mountain bike races across Scotland from April to September.

Scottish Downhill Association The big cheeses who oversee the Scottish Downhill Mountain bike Series.

International Cycling Organisations:  
Union Cycliste Internationale World governing body for cycle sport. News and results from all the major events - World Championships, Regional and Olympic Games, World Cup events etc.

Premier Calendar Elite Road Racing:  
Cycling.tv Global broadband TV channel Cycling.tv produce a highlights programme of every event in the Premier Calendar Series. These are broadcast on British Eurosport as well as online at cycling.tv

Beaumont Trophy Now a part of the Northern Rock Cyclone Festival of Cycling, the Beaumont Trophy is a long established event of over 50 years standing. Organised by Gosforth RC, the race is based on a circuit around Stamfordham, 13 miles NW of Newcastle.

Blackpool GP web page With a finishing straight on the Lancashire resort's famous promenade, the Blackpool GP is one of two Premier Calendar events organised by the enthusiastic team at Cycling Development North West.

Lincoln Grand Prix A true one-day classic which showcases UK road racing to huge crowds each year. The race is particularly spectator friendly, passing through the finish area in the old city centre each lap.

Tour of Pendle Web Page The second of Cycling Devolpment North West's big road race promtions in 2008, the Tour of Pendle is held in the spectacular Lancashire countryside.

Riders' Personal Web Sites:  
Mark Cavendish A product of the world renowned British Cycling development programme, Manxman 'Cav' won stage 1 at Girvan in 2004 while still in his teens. His scintillating finish in Henrietta Street gave fans a sneak preview of the awesome sprinting ability which has taken him to multiple stage wins in the Giro D'Italia and Tour de France and wins in some of the most prestigious single day road races on the European pro circuit. Already a Commonwealth gold medallist on the track, Mark is tipped for gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Paul Curran This absorbing and highly recommended site looks at the amazing career of the only man to win 'The Girvan' three times. The site, featuring loads of pictures, was created by his brother-in-law, Paul being far too modest to do something like this himself! Paul now runs a successful stretched limousine hire business in his native Teeside.

Dean Downing As one of the famous Downing brothers 'Deano' has enlivened the Girvan on a few occasions and was one of the main protagonists of the 2007 race winning the 'hilly' stage on a foul day.

Russell Downing Russ - Deano's brother - won stage 3 and topped the overall sprints classification at Girvan in 2005 before returning in 2008 to take the overall win.

Chris Newton A palmares including several Girvan stage wins along with numerous National, Commonwealth, World and Olympic titles and medals, underpins Chris Newton's reputation as one the UK's finest racing cyclists.

Sean Yates 1980 Girvan winner, 12 time Tour de France finisher and renowned hard man of the peloton, Sean Yates' impressive palmares tracks a career that saw him take part in all the big European pro races.

Others:  
Tour of Britain Britain's national stage race. With an organisational team headed by two time Girvan winner Tony Doyle this event is now firmly re-established on the international calendar and is set to grow even bigger.

Tour de France Needs no introduction. The big one. The event upon which almost every other stage race is based.

Cycling Weekly The only weekly publication in the UK to cover cycle sport - at home and abroad. In addition to race reports CW also features product reviews, training, nutrition and technical articles.

Cycling.tv Cycling.tv is the global Internet TV station where cycling fans know they can watch the best cycling action live and on demand, with free to view and premium services. On a UK national level cycling.tv brings the best of British racing, including Premier Calendar road races, to a national and international audience.

CCS CCS is the company run by our Race Announcer Carl Lawrenson who also writes the excellent race reports that appear on this site. The CCS site also provides links to the sites of events in British Cycling's North West Region - one of the UK's most active cycle sport areas.

VeloResults This Edinburgh based web site has news and results from Scottish races as well as stories and interviews which offer the reader an insight into the world cycle sport scene - past and present.
