Girvan Cycle Race - Using This Website

Site Navigation:
The site is designed to be navigated using the main menu bar which is located near the top of each page. This gives access to the main sections of the website. With the exception of the 'Home' button a sub-menu will open when you 'mouse-over' each main section button. Move the mouse pointer down to highlight a sub-menu item and click on the highlighted text to go to the desired page.

The main menu bar is a graphical image and works using a computer scripting language called Javascript. If your web browser does not support Javascript, or if Javascript has been disabled on your PC, you may have difficulty using the main menu. Some pop-up blockers may also prevent the menu from displaying. The Javascript used to create the main menu does not pose a threat to your PC and is safe to use.

The navigation trail (a.k.a. the breadcrumb trail) directly beneath the main menu bar indicates the section and page of the site in which you are currently located. On this page for example, the trail is:
'Girvan Cycle Race > Site Map > Help > Using This Website:'

To return to the Home Page at any time do one of the following:-
  • Click the 'Home' button on the main menu bar
  • Click the 'Girvan Cycle Race' banner at the head of each page
  • Click the 'Girvan Cycle Race' text on the navigation trail
  • Click the 'Home' hypertext link near the bottom of each page
Site Map:
If you can't see the main menu bar for any reason you can navigate using the Site Map which can be accessed at any time using the navigation trail near the top of the page or the text link at the bottom of each page. The Site Map consists of hypertext links and does not use graphics or Javascript.

PDF Files:
This website uses in Portable Document Format files (PDF). Wherever a link points to a PDF file, this will be noted alongside the link. To assist users with narrowband Internet access the file size may also be shown if the file is particularly big.

To view PDF files you will require to have a 'PDF reader' installed on your computer. Adobe Reader is the proprietary PDF reader and is often pre-installed on many new computers. If not, it can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe's website. An alternative is Foxit Reader which is also free and is a smaller download file than Adobe Reader.

Download Adobe Reader        Download Foxit Reader

Most PDF readers allow, or can be set up to allow, PDF files to open in your browser. You can also download a PDF file to your computer for off-line viewing by right clicking on its hypertext link and choosing the appropriate 'save' command. See your PDF software's Help for further information on setting it up for Internet use.

Why PDF Files?
Developed by Adobe Systems, the Portable Document Format allows information from any printable software application to be captured and viewed, on any computer system, and shared with anyone around the world. While special software is required to create PDF files, they can be viewed, online or offline, using a free PDF reader (see above) which is pre-installed on many computer systems.

We use various software applications to produce Girvan Cycle Race documentation e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and a bespoke race results programme. By publishing documents in PDF format everyone with a PDF reader can access them even if they do not have Word, Excel etc installed on their computer.
