What We Do

The Girvan Cycle Race is a multi-stage cycle road race promoted by Wallacehill Cycling Club which is based in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The race is held under the rules and technical regulations of Scottish Cycling, British Cycling and the Union Cycliste Internationale (International Cycling Union). The race is organised by a committee of unpaid volunteers headed by Wallacehill CC member and Race Organiser designate Ian Sinclair (pictured right). The event is staffed by volunteer race officials, the majority of whom are unpaid, and numerous supporting organisations. Senior race officials are appointed to the event by British Cycling.

The race is run on a not-for-profit basis funded primarily by sponsors and patrons. First held in 1968, the event is a long-standing fixture on the Ayrshire sporting calendar and brings proven economic benefits to the local area.

The event forms part of British Cycling's Premier Calendar Elite Road Racing Series for elite, first or second category race licence holders. Riders of this standard make up the national teams which can be seen competing at National Tours, World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

Cycle road racing on the highways is specifically permitted under the Road Traffic Acts 'The Cycle Racing on Highways (Scotland) Regulations 1960' and 'Cycle Racing on Highways (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1996'.
